I used to teach classes with the Tailwagger Club (www.tailwaggerclub.com), which runs in Leeds, Harrogate and Tadcaster. I also took my two dogs, Sheba and Teddy to classes with this club for many years.
Tailwaggers has a display team of around 40 people and their dogs, and they spend each summer travelling around the UK performing at shows. Many of the dogs are from rescue, and several of them have overcome difficult issues such as being unable to pass near another dog without going totally ballistic.
In the team’s early days, Sheba and I were regular members. This was despite the team including two other dogs with a similar dislike of other dogs. All three of these “grumpies” behaved impeccably in close quarters.
Reward-based training isn’t always a quick fix but it leads to a great bond between owner and dog, reliable results, and happy dogs with wagging tails as shown in this wonderful clip.
